Morgan Halaska hails from the city of beer (Milwaukee) and resides in the land of 10,000 lakes (Minneapolis). She went to Marquette University and graduated with a degree in Writing Intensive English and moved to Minneapolis in 2009 to pursue a career in publishing and moved from the magazine biz to the craft brewing industry in 2020. She enjoys biking in any season, traveling to new places, reading a good book, and cooking a new recipe.

The annual Best of Minnesota readers' choice awards lets readers vote on 28 categories in a pre-populated ballot determined by the editorial and sales departments. This year, I worked with the art team to change the design to promote readability; instead of the large blocks of text we'd done in past years, I suggested we spotlight each winner in its own section.

2019 Hall of Fame
Our annual Hall of Fame spotlights seven industry individuals as selected by the magazine's editorial advisory board. I organized the meeting for the board where members deliberated and voted on almost 40 nominations. In collaboration with the art and photography teams, we scheduled a day devote to the photo shoots and interviews. I stayed with the "as told to" style from last year so to let each individual personality come through.
F&B Trends
Food and beverage is a popular topic in the meetings and events industry. The senior editor and I tag-teamed this piece and talked to local experts about trends. My favorite part about this feature article are the Q&As; they really color it with their passion and knowledge of their field of expertise.
